Ultima Vez / Lukah Katangila

FR La compagnie Ultima Vez, dirigée par Wim Vandekeybus, artiste associé aux Théâtres de la Ville (Infamous Offspring, 23·24), revient à Luxembourg avec une nouvelle création du jeune danseur et chorégraphe congolais Lukah Katangila, Imprisoned Gods, une pièce qui explore les riches traditions et systèmes de croyance de l’ancien Alkebulan (l’Afrique actuelle), avant l’influence de la colonisation occidentale. Quatre danseurs, chacun enraciné dans la région de Goma et spécialisé dans un style de danse traditionnel, interprètent des mouvements inspirés de la chasse de la Rega à la majestueuse Tembo, du fluide Shi au sauvage Hunde. Une célébration de l’essence et de la diversité culturelle d’Alkebulan. Une pièce qui construit un pont entre la tradition et l’expression moderne.

EN Imprisoned Gods is the latest collaboration between choreographer and dancer Lukah Katangila and Ultima Vez, the company founded by international associate of the Théâtres de la Ville Wim Vandekeybus. It explores the intricate tapestry of African traditional culture and its tumultuous encounter with Christianity, a faith imported by Western colonisers. Through a synthesis of dance, visual expression, and musical compositions, and collaborating with dancers and artists hailing from diverse traditional backgrounds, Katangila orchestrates a nuanced narrative, depicting how the suppression of African spirituality culminated in the incarceration of their gods. Imprisoned Gods presents a compelling tableau that resonates with both historical depth and contemporary relevance, shedding light on the enduring struggle for cultural autonomy amidst the shadows of colonial legacy.

Imprisoned Gods erkundet die reichen Traditionen und Glaubenssysteme des alten Alkebulan (heute Afrika) vor dem Beginn der Kolonisation. Das Stück zeugt den Weusi-Völkern Tribut, die für ihre tiefe Verbundenheit mit der Natur, der Medizin und zahlreichen Gottheiten bekannt sind, und untersucht die Auswirkungen des Christentums.
