FR Figure iconique du continent africain, surnommée la Jeanne d’Arc congolaise, Kimpa Vita (1684-1706), prophétesse et martyre en lutte pour l’indépendance de son pays, est devenue un symbole pour la liberté et, au-delà, pour toutes les femmes qui luttent contre l’oppression. Elle a inspiré à DeLaVallet Bidiefono (Utopia / Les Sauvages, 22 • 23) un spectacle fort, intense, nourri à la fois par les cultures traditionnelles et par les influences contemporaines, et merveilleusement porté par la danseuse Florence Gnarigo. Les spectacles de DeLaVallet Bidiefono prônent une pluridisciplinarité foisonnante : l’auteur Dieudonné Niangouna a mis en mots l’histoire de Kimpa Vita, et la musique de Benoît Lugué et la voix de la chanteuse malgache Dina Mialinelina l’accompagnent, l’enveloppent et la portent.

EN In a powerful fusion of dance, music, and storytelling, Sorcières / Kimpa Vita brings to life one of Africa’s most compelling historical figures through the visionary choreography of DeLaVallet Bidiefono. On a battlefield strewn with glowing embers, dancer Florence Gnarigo embodies the “Congolese Joan of Arc,” who fought fearlessly for her people’s freedom in the early 18th century. Through the stirring text by Dieudonné Niangouna, we experience Kimpa Vita’s journey from prophetess to martyr, as she defies colonial missionaries to defend her people’s independence. The haunting vocals of Malagasy singer Dina Mialinelina and rock-influenced music of bassist Benoît Lugué create a powerful soundscape that bridges centuries of feminine resistance. Sorcières / Kimpa Vita transcends its historical roots to become a universal hymn to women’s resilience and courage, speaking to all who continue to struggle for freedom and justice today.

DE Choreograf und Tänzer DeLaVallet Bidiefono hat sich nicht nur in seinem Heimatland Kongo, sondern auch in Europa einen Namen gemacht. Am Grand Théâtre war er in der Spielzeit 22 • 23 mit Utopia / Les Sauvages zu Gast, nun folgt sein neuestes Stück Sorcières / Kimpa Vita. Es handelt von der kongolesischen Jeanne d’Arc, Kimpa Vita, einer Prophetin, die sich 1704 für die Unabhängigkeit ihres Landes einsetzte und wegen Ketzerei zum Scheiterhaufen verurteilt wurde. Gleichzeitig ist das Stück eine Hymne an die Frauen, die heute gegen Unterdrückung kämpfen. Eine Tänzerin, eine Sängerin und ein Musiker erzählen Kimpa Vitas Geschichte auf einer sandigen Bühne, die mit glühenden Kohlen übersät wird. Der organische Tanz, die präzisen Bewegungen und die Kraft der Worte verleihen dem Abend eine außergewöhnliche Intensität.
