EN Shahar Binyamini was a dancer with Batsheva Dance Company for seven years before branching out as a choreographer. He has created works for companies as diverse as Stuttgart’s Gauthier Dance and the Korean Bora. As designer as well as choreographer, Binyamini begins his creative process by drawing the world of his piece. In his choreography, he strives constantly to evolve the dance language he calls ”creature“. He encourages his dancers to allow their bodies to take over the decision-making from their head, in the search for new rhythms and modes of expression. For his first visit to the Théâtres de la Ville, he presents a futuristic new piece called More Than for six dancers. The theme picks up from an earlier exploration, Paradiso, his 2019 work of bionic humanoids learning to move together.

Performance futuriste pour six danseurs, More Than interroge lʼhistoire des êtres humains en tant que créatures sensibles et expressives en constante évolution. Qu’est-ce l’être humain, sinon une âme enveloppée d’une forme animale ? Sommes-nous simplement des corps, ou sommes-nous plus que cela ? À travers une expérience visuelle, sonore et musicale, imaginée par le compositeur Daniel Grossmann, qui explore le lien entre science et mouvement physique, Shahar Binyamini, premier artiste danseur à être associé au Weizmann Institute of Science, plonge au plus profond de l’être humain.

Shahar Binyamini ist nicht nur dem Wesen der Liebe auf der Spur, er forscht seit langem an der Schnittstelle zwischen Körper, Geist und Seele. Der israelische Choreograf tanzte sieben Jahre in der Batsheva Dance Company, die mehrfach in Luxemburg zu sehen war. Sein neues Stück beginnt mit einer langen Reihe einsamer, in sich versunkener Gestalten, aus der plötzlich ein intensives, stark physisches Duo hervorbricht. More Than gibt keine Antworten, sondern zeigt zur kraftvollen Musik von Daniel Grossmann eine fesselnde Suche nach dem Wesen des Menschen. Wie viel Tier steckt noch in uns? Sind wir Seelen, die in einem Körper gefangen wurden? Oder schon auf dem Weg zur nächsten Stufe der Evolution?
