[EN] Award-winning choreographer and artistic director Édouard Lock has created a new work for La La La Human Steps, the prestigious company he founded in 1980. Lock uses as his reference two baroque operas, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and Gluck's Orpheus. He has collaborated with British composer Gavin Bryars, with whom he worked on a deconstruction of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, to achieve interaction between the two unrelated works.

Lock himself says that the "inherent coldness of Baroque structures permits precise choreography to coexist with precise composition, encouraging the choreography to observe the theme from a "detached" point of view." Indeed, he is trying to achieve something new in this work - namely to allow narrative structure and abstract dance structure to mutually reinforce each other while also remaining independent of each other. As well as the choreography linking the two stories, with Orpheus influenced by and seen through Dido and Aeneas, Lock introduces a film element representing the point of view of Cerberus, the three-headed dog guarding the way to Hades. Lock believes that, because observation is by nature inclusive, by placing in close proximity the two unrelated but chronologically close works, Lock says the audience will link the stories and invent a new narrative from them.

Jubiläum seiner Kompanie entwirft Lock nun ein neues Werk, das man sich keineswegs entgehen lassen sollte.
