Grand Théâtre - Arrière-scène

Kris Verdonck

[en] After his impressive performances in Wagner Dream in 2007 and Wolfskers in 2008, Belgian actor Johan Leysen makes a welcome return to the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg with Kris Verdonck's apocalyptic vision and interactive media spectacle End.

The end of the world is near. At least that is what visual and performing artist Kris Verdonck wants us to believe in drawing the possible final stages of a human society in ten scenes. All too familiar images of melting glaciers, burning forests and the horrors of famine and war gradually give way to aimless figures, objects and technical devices on stage, all of them linked by a single character and his monologue - like the messenger in Greek tragedy: the witness who sees it all happen.

With End, Kris Verdonck is walking the fine line between installation and theatre performance, exploring the space in which visual art and theatre coincide and where both, individually, realise their own essence.

» End is a magnificent, poetic, yet extremely disturbing vision of the end of humanity. The Stage
