[EN] Choreographer Kenneth Kvarnström has worked with dancers and creative artists from other disciplines to create (play), a work that explores the effect of music and silence on a viewing experience.

The piece combines dance with live music by composers such as Bach, Chopin, Philip Glass and Shostakovich, among others. The music is performed by musicians from the Norrlands Operans Symfoniorkester together with soloists Asuka Nakamura on piano and Jonas Nordberg playing the teorb (a type of long-necked lute).

But the creativity of renowned Nordic fashion designers Martin Bergström, Helena Hörstedt and Erika Turunen is also integral to the production. They combine with Swedish lighting designer Jens Sethzman to provide every part of the performance with its own theme and look.

(play) is actually the second part of Kvarnström's trilogy exploring the subject of viewing following 2011's YOUMAKEME and ahead of the final part, re(use).

[FR] Six musiciens, sept danseurs et des costumes créés par des dessinateurs de mode: plein les yeux donc! La musique classique est un élément nouveau dans la création de Kenneth Kvarnström.

Alors qu'auparavant il recourait surtout à de la musique électronique produite par un ordinateur, il va cette fois installer des musiciens sur le plateau, qui interpréteront des pièces de musique classique du XIVe siècle à nos jours. Le chorégraphe s'est de plus imposé la stimulante contrainte d'une danse qui ne soit pas systématiquement dépendante de cette musique, mais qui installe avec elle un dialogue original.

Mehr als 15 Jahre lang war Kenneth Kvarnström einer der aktivsten und bekanntesten Choreografen in den nordischen Ländern, bevor er eine sechsjährige Pause einlegte und Direktor des Dansens Hus in Stockholm wurde. Nun ist er kraftvoller denn je zurück auf der internationalen Szene und hat sich nach einer gefeierten Kreation für die Sydney Dance Company zu einer mehrjährigen Zusammenarbeit mit der renommierten Tanzcompagnie des Helsinki City Theatre verabredet.
