[EN] Rosalind, the daughter of an exiled duke, falls in love with Orlando. Banished from their homeland by Rosalind's dictator uncle, they run for their lives into the wild depths of a forest. In that harsh, lyrical wilderness, they discover an unexpected freedom.

Douglas Rintoul is well known to Luxembourg audiences following his productions of Design for Living, Closer and Invisible at the Théâtre des Capucins. Now he and his company re-imagine As You Like It within the context of contemporary statelessness, breathing new life into this firm favourite among Shakespeare's comedies. Their forest of Arden becomes a limbo makeshift camp, one that could be seen today along the coast of northern France or on the border of Syria and Turkey. Its inhabitants grapple with their statelessness and struggle to move forward. The pressure of exile pushes this band of merry men and women to an extreme; life is so harsh that they collectively imagine a way out. Seen in this context, As You Like It becomes a very timely story about the human capacity to endure.

Transport was set up in 2007 and has produced a major revival of David Greig's 1994 play Europe (Barbican/Dundee Rep 2007), a new devised solo piece Elegy (Edinburgh Festival 2011 and Theatre503, London 2012, Monodrama Festival Luxembourg 2013, nominated for Fringe First and Off West End Awards). The company commissioned and produced Invisible (UK and European Tour in 2011/12) and realized 1001 Nights, a modern devised adaptation of Arabian Nights for young audiences (Unicorn Theatre, London 2013). The major thread that links all of Transport's work is an exploration of shifting notions of identity in the 21st Century, a celebration of the diversity of the human experience and the power of theatre as an imaginative and transformative experience.

[FR] Rosalind, la fille d'un duc exilé, tombe amoureuse d'Orlando. Bannis de leur patrie par l'oncle tyran de Rosalind, ils trouvent refuge dans les profondeurs sauvages d'une forêt. Mais paradoxalement, ils en arrivent à découvrir et à vivre une liberté inattendue dans la pire des contraintes.

Douglas Rintoul est bien connu du public luxembourgeois grâce à Design for Living, Closer et Invisible, représentés au Théâtre des Capucins. Il nous revient avec une vision très personnelle du As you like it de Shakespeare, une version actualisée qui nous transporte dans un camp de réfugiés quelque part au bord de la mer du Nord en France ou à la frontière entre la Syrie et la Turquie.

As you like it devient ainsi une histoire très révélatrice de la capacité humaine à faire face.
