[EN] A collaboration between Russell Maliphant and Sylvie Guillem, Push has been a roaring success on tour throughout the world and during its engagements at Sadler's Wells. The four pieces that make up Push complement each other, even though they were created at different periods. In the words of Neil Norman, dance critic at the Daily Express, the works "now seem to form part of an organic whole."

The performance begins with Solo, created for Sylvie Guillem in 2005 with music by the great flamenco composer Carlos Montoya. It showcases the femininity and beauty of Guillem's classical technique as she performs with the proud stance of a flamenco artist, then explodes with amazing flexibility. Shift is another solo piece, though this time for Maliphant himself. Yet it is almost a duet as the dancer enjoys interplay with the ingenious lighting of his long-time collaborator Michael Hulls, whose work was seen recently at the Grand Théâtre in the production of In The Spirit Of Diaghilev.

The penultimate piece is Two, originally created for Dana Fouras but given new life by Guillem. It is a mesmerising and pulsating work that employs repetitive and increasingly intense
rhythms with a score by Andy Cowton that he created during the development of the choreography. The evening climaxes with Push itself. Created as a duet between Maliphant and Guillem, Push was a sensation when it debuted at Sadler's Wells in 2005. Exploring different types of relationship, Push is a sensuous work that contrasts Maliphant's weighted, earthbound movements with Guillem's soaring ballerina lift. Andy Cowton again provides an entrancing score and Michael Hulls's lighting casts the dancers in a stunning golden glow.

[FR] Artiste d'exception, considérée comme «la danseuse la plus brillante de sa génération» par le Guardian, Sylvie Guillem revient à Luxembourg après une tournée mondiale triomphale avec Russell Maliphant - dont le public du Grand Théâtre a pu découvrir le talent inouï la saison dernière dans In the Spirit of Diaghilev grâce à son émouvant et magistral solo AfterLight créé en hommage aux Ballets Russes. Son aura, ses choix, imposent le respect et suscitent l'admiration. Placée sous le signe de la rencontre artistique où la danse se nourrit de danse, cette soirée n'a d'autre objet que de faire goûter à la réalité sublimée, à un état de grâce absolu. Quatre chorégraphies fascinantes seront présentées dont le fameux duo Push qui a remporté en 2006 le Laurence Olivier Award.
